VFBV hosted Fire Services Commissioner Craig Lapsley at its September State Council/AGM weekend to provide an opportunity for volunteers to give feedback on the State’s First Bushfire Plan.

Historically, each agency has developed its own Bushfire plan, but for the first time the Commissioner has released a State Bushfire Plan, covering the responsibilities of agencies, government and communities in bushfire management. The plan reflects an integrated approach and shared responsibility between government, agencies, communities and individuals.

It is not an operational document, but explains the strategy linking the bushfire-related programs of the fire services.

Craig was generous with his time, allowing volunteers plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and hear his views on topics such as the importance of CFA’s integrated service delivery model, and the important role of volunteers in the State’s command and control arrangements.
