Introduction
As a result of Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria being established as the single and unified body representing all CFA volunteers, and following generous support from the Victorian Government, the VFVB Welfare Fund is now available to support all members of VFBV affiliated brigades.
In it's first year of operation, the VFBV Welfare Fund has processed 47 applications, and distributed over $100,000 in grants.
Since 1913, urban volunteers have been supported by the VUFBA Welfare Fund, and with these funds combining with the Government grant, a capital base exists to extend the support to all CFA volunteers. Following a brigade’s affiliation with VFBV, each brigade may subscribe to the VFBV Welfare Fund by the payment of an annual fee. The setting of the annual fee is made mindful of the need to sustain the funds capital reserves and every effort is made to keep fees affordable for all member brigades.
Membership of the VFBV Welfare Fund requires payment of a small annual welfare fund contribution by each brigade seeking to provide coverage for their members. Brigades who wish to subscribe to the welfare fund need to be affiliated with VFBV. VFBV will provide the resources required to administer the fund and the annual welfare fund contribution paid by brigades will be used to ensure the fund is self sustaining into the future. The setting of the annual fee is made mindful of the need to sustain the funds capital reserves and every effort is made to keep fees affordable for all member brigades. The VFBV Board supported a reduction of Brigade Subscription from $100 in the 2008/09 period reduced to $85 per Brigade for 2009/10 in accordance with keeping fees as low as possible.
