VFBV Gold Star Award
The VFBV Board at its October meeting endorsed the eligibility and procedural requirements for brigades to make application for members to receive the VFBV Gold Star.
The Gold Star Award, prior to 4 October 2008 and the unification of the Rural and Urban Associations into Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria, was an award made to urban volunteers who had provided service and support to the VUFBA and served as a registered volunteer with the CFA for 30 years or more.
With VFBV now providing a single and unified voice for all CFA volunteers, the VFBV Board has recognised that an award titled the ‘VFBV GOLD STAR’ be made available to all brigades who wish to apply for members who have served the association and the CFA and meet the eligibility criteria.
Service by volunteers both rural and urban is cumulative and where previously the VUFBA Gold Star was available only to urban volunteers, the VFBV GOLD STAR is available for ALL volunteers.
These are available for volunteer firefighters who have provided several years support and service to the Association. The "Gold Star" Award, Ribbon Bar and Lapel Badge are available to brigades for presentation to members both current and retired, who have completed thirty (30) years service with the Country Fire Authority, whom meet the criteria specified on the Application Form.
"The Decoration is in the form of a Service Medal and Ribbon with the Association’s emblem superimposed on a Gold Star. A navy enamel bar is fixed to the top of the ribbon with the words “Gold Star Award” thereon whilst, at the bottom of the ribbon a navy enamel bar is attached with the words “30 Years Service”. The Award is to be worn above the right pocket of the uniform, with the bottom point of the medal centered immediately above, but not touching the top of the name plaque.”
VFBV prefers that the Award should be presented to the Recipient by a VFBV Board Member or State Councillor at a Public Function to honour the occasion.
