Bushfires Royal Commission Report

 The Commission handed down its Interim Report on 17 August 2009. The Report included 51 recommendations all of which have been accepted by the Government. Prior to the release of the Report, the Premier had announced a number of initiatives aimed at addressing many of the matters that were anticipated to arise from the Report. These initiatives now form the basis of actions to address the Report’s recommendations.

Minister Announces Launch Of New Csesp Round

NEW GRANTS TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY SERVICE GROUPS

Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron today announced applications are now open for this year’s $3.76 million round of the Community Safety Emergency Support Program (CSESP) and urged local emergency services groups to apply.

The CSESP grants program is open to all CFA brigades, VICSES Units, Life Saving Victoria Clubs, Australian Volunteer Coastguard (AVCG) flotillas and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) teams.

Ufu / CFA Board Of Reference Future Staffing Decision

 Members will have heard or read about the above matter and its troubling consequences for volunteers and the statutory operational management of the CFA.

VFBV is extremely concerned over this matter and disappointed that CFA seems to have inappropriately and in contravention of their duties and obligations under the CFA Act surrendered operational control decisions to an external industrial relations panel. We note the Chief Officer actively opposed a majority of the Board of Reference/Disputes Board staffing decisions but was overridden.

These are available for volunteer firefighters who have provided several years support and service to the Association. The "Gold Star" Award, Ribbon Bar and Lapel Badge are available to brigades for presentation to members both current and retired, who have completed thirty (30) years service with the Country Fire Authority, whom meet the criteria specified on the Application Form.

CFA Ppc Structural Ensemble - Point Of Clarification

 Members may be interested in the attached memo from CFA CEO N Bibby regarding the Structural PPC Ensembles which has been prepared by CFA to clarify confusion that may been caused by incorrect information being distributed by some people. In simple terms, CFA have advised VFBV that the Manikin Tests DID NOT demonstrate that one ensemble is safer than the other and that an assessment of the relative safety of the two ensembles requires consideration of the full suite of tests conducted as previously communicated by CFA.
