Bushfires Royal Commission Report
The Commission handed down its Interim Report on 17 August 2009. The Report included 51 recommendations all of which have been accepted by the Government. Prior to the release of the Report, the Premier had announced a number of initiatives aimed at addressing many of the matters that were anticipated to arise from the Report. These initiatives now form the basis of actions to address the Report’s recommendations.

Minister Announces Launch Of New Csesp Round
NEW GRANTS TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY SERVICE GROUPS
Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron today announced applications are now open for this year’s $3.76 million round of the Community Safety Emergency Support Program (CSESP) and urged local emergency services groups to apply.
The CSESP grants program is open to all CFA brigades, VICSES Units, Life Saving Victoria Clubs, Australian Volunteer Coastguard (AVCG) flotillas and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) teams.

Ufu / CFA Board Of Reference Future Staffing Decision
Members will have heard or read about the above matter and its troubling consequences for volunteers and the statutory operational management of the CFA.
VFBV is extremely concerned over this matter and disappointed that CFA seems to have inappropriately and in contravention of their duties and obligations under the CFA Act surrendered operational control decisions to an external industrial relations panel. We note the Chief Officer actively opposed a majority of the Board of Reference/Disputes Board staffing decisions but was overridden.

National Advertising Campaign To Thank Volunteers
CFA is pleased to announce that a volunteer affiliate – Volunteering Australia intends running a national advertising campaign to acknowledge the work of all Australian volunteers.
Volunteering Australia has secured the support of a major sponsor to conduct a national “volunteer thank you” media campaign running through to National Volunteer Week (11th to 17th May).

National Emergency Volunteer Support Fund
Advice from Emergency Management Australia has been received that due to the disruptions and high workloads associated with the Victorian fires during February into early March, the deadline for brigades and groups wishing to submit an application for a grant under this scheme has been extended to 31st March 2009.

VFBV Gold Star Award
These are available for volunteer firefighters who have provided several years support and service to the Association. The "Gold Star" Award, Ribbon Bar and Lapel Badge are available to brigades for presentation to members both current and retired, who have completed thirty (30) years service with the Country Fire Authority, whom meet the criteria specified on the Application Form.

CFA Ppc Structural Ensemble - Point Of Clarification
Members may be interested in the attached memo from CFA CEO N Bibby regarding the Structural PPC Ensembles which has been prepared by CFA to clarify confusion that may been caused by incorrect information being distributed by some people. In simple terms, CFA have advised VFBV that the Manikin Tests DID NOT demonstrate that one ensemble is safer than the other and that an assessment of the relative safety of the two ensembles requires consideration of the full suite of tests conducted as previously communicated by CFA.

Unified Body Update: VFBV Position Paper And Constitution
Both Volunteer Associations have agreed to the VFBV Position Paper and proposed Constitution being forwarded to all brigades and Regional Councils. The aim of the Position Paper is to give brigades and Regional Councils an understanding of the proposed structure which will operate upon the merging of the VUFBA and the VRFBA into the one Association (VFBV).

New Structural Ppc Update

40 Km Speed Limit Restriction On Drivers Passing Emergency Service Vehicles.
In late 2000 early 2001 as a result of approaches from a number of Regional Councils the volunteer Associations approached CFA regarding concerns for the safety of emergency service workers operating on the Hume Freeway and other major highways across the State.
